U.S. and Ukraine sign historic deal

Under the agreement, Ukraine will receive help to rebuild following Russia’s full-scale invasion while the U.S. will have access to the country’s mineral, oil and gas reserves

Deal foresees creation of investment fund with each side contributing 50% of financing

Does not include explicit security guarantees, but affirms that any future U.S. military assistance will be qualified as investment

Includes provision protecting Ukraine from any deal that could hinder its EU accession goals

Gives U.S. preferential access to investments in any operator that extracts rare earths in Ukraine

Excludes repayment: President Donald Trump had previously demanded that Kyiv pay back $350bn in aid – condition rejected by President Volodymyr Zelensky
