European elections 2024

Up to 450 million citizens in the European Union’s 27 member states will vote between June 6-9 to elect 720 members of the European Parliament, one of the union’s three core institutions

Parliament: MEPs scrutinise, amend and vote on proposed legislation.

MEPs are elected as members of national parties. Minimum number of MEPs from any country is six and maximum is 96

Increased seats: France, Netherlands and Spain (up 2 MEPs each); Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Poland, Latvia, Slovakia and Slovenia (up 1 MEP each)

Budget is set jointly by Commission, Council and Parliament
