1970: Prince Charles meets Camilla at polo match in Windsor

1973: Camilla marries Household Cavalry officer Andrew Parker Bowles. They have two children, Tom and Laura

1981: Charles marries Lady Diana Spencer. They have two sons, William and Harry, but marriage is soon in trouble

1994: Charles admits having extramarital affair with Camilla

1995: Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles are divorced. Diana confirms Charles’ infidelity and her own in bombshell TV interview

1996: Charles and Diana divorce. Camilla all but vanishes from public life as public and media support swings behind Diana

1997: Diana killed in high-speed car crash in Paris – nation goes into deep mourning
 
1999: First public appearance of Charles and Camilla together since death of Diana
  
2002: Queen Mother – opposed to Charles’ relationship – dies. Camilla is invited to funeral, and later to Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee celebrations
  
2005: Charles and Camilla marry in civil ceremony in Windsor (below). Amid ongoing sensitivity, Camilla is known as Duchess of Cornwall
