1 Aug 1999: Magnitude 7.4 earthquake, with epicentre near city of Izmit, kills more than 17,000 people

2 Nov 1999: 7.2. quake centred on city of Duzce kills at least 845 people and injures over 4,000

3 May 2003: 6.4 earthquake hits province of Bingol, bringing down school dormitory. 167 people, including 83 children, killed

4 May 2010: At least 57 people killed after 6.1 quake strikes province of Elazig

5 Oct / Nov 2011: Two earthquakes rock city of Van, claiming 644 lives

8 Feb 2023: Magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 tremors rock southeastern Turkey and northwest Syria, killing more than 2,300 people
