North Korea fires missile over Japan

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile over Japan for the first time in five years. The launch is the fifth in the past 10 days, following military drills between the U.S., South Korea and Japan

Approximate path: Missile flies 4,500km, reaching maximum altitude of 1,000km before landing in Pacific some 3,200km off east coast of Japan

Initial flight details suggest missile may have been nuclear-capable Hwasong-12 (right), unveiled in 2017 as part of North Korea’s threat to strike U.S. military bases on island of Guam
