Biden reveals vice-presidential pick
     

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, 77, has selected Senator Kamala Harris of California as his vice-presidential running mate.

Harris is the first Black woman and the first person of Indian descent to be nominated for national office by a major party, and the third woman in U.S. history chosen for a presidential ticket


Kamala Harris: As a former San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general, Harris, 55, brings relative youth and deep electoral experience to campaign.

She garnered national attention for her enthusiastic embrace of police reform following protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis in May


In 1984 Democrat Geraldine Ferraro became America’s first female vice-presidential nominee. In 2008, John McCain picked Sarah Palin – former Republican Alaska governor – as his running mate
