Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda series is one of gaming’s most beloved adventure game franchises,
focusing on the adventures of Link – most often tasked with rescuing Princess Zelda from the clutches
of evil Ganon, in the kingdom of Hyrule. Some exceptions exist though, such as Link’s Awakening

Hylian Shield

Master Sword: Invariably hidden in game world. Players, who control Link, can track it down and use it to defeat Ganon

Ganon (aka Ganondorf): Link’s nemesis. Often captures Zelda in attempt to conquer Hyrule

Princess Zelda: Titular character and member of Hyrule royal family. Generally portrays damsel in
distress who can assist Link’s progress in adventures

Kingdom of Hyrule: In Breath of the Wild, game map is 360km² – about size of Kyoto, Japan

Created by Shigeru Miyamoto (right), who also created Mario and many other popular Nintendo properties

Game inspired by Miyamoto’s childhood explorations of forests and caves around his home in
Sonobe, Japan (now city of Nantan)
