Karadzic to spend rest of life behind bars ------------------ UN judges have increased the sentence of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, 73, to life in prison -------------------- Jun 19, 1945: Radovan Karadzic born in Petnjica village, Yugoslavia (now in Montenegro) 1960s: Moves to ethnically-mixed city of Sarajevo, where he trains in medicine, specialising in psychiatry. He also takes up poetry and falls under influence of Serb nationalist writer Dobrica Cosic, who encourages him to enter politics 1989: Collapse of communism in Yugoslavia. Karadzic forms Serbian Democratic Party in response to rise of nationalist and Croat parties in Bosnia, and dedicated to goal of greater Serbia 1992: Bosnia gains independence.
