The Olympic Torch is designed to reflect the spirit of unity and connection between all competitors from the world’s five continents

Pentagon: Five-sided shape represents five continents to which all competitors belong

Stars: Repeating motif signifies first consonant of second syllable of Korean alphabet for PyeongChang, and, again, symbolises five continents

Gold: Inner sheath intended to be extension of flame once torch is lit

Inextinguishable flame: Torch designed to withstand drastic changes in weather, which can occur during Relay

Altitude above sea level: 2,000m

Flame height: 20cm (burns for 15 minutes)

Five Pillars: Form designed to mimic flames
