El Chapo under extreme watch

Increased security measures are being taken to ensure Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman does not break out from the Altiplano high-security prison from which he escaped last year

Cameras: Around 1,000 new security cameras, as well as thermal sensors, being installed throughout prison to eliminate blind spots

Guzman given copy of Don Quixote, to encourage reading habit

Prison floor: Reinforced with  mesh of steel rods

Motion sensors: New underground alarm system installed

Visitor access: Severely restricted. Those allowed face stringent screening

Cell: Guzman to be moved at random between cells

Sink and toilet

Surveillance: Elite guards wearing helmet-mounted cameras and accompanied by dogs trained to detect Guzman’s scent, keep watch 24 hours on his door

Dogs also taste Guzman’s food to prevent anyone from poisoning him

Shower: Guzman escaped in July through tunnel under floor
