Russia warns U.S. over plans for border troops

Moscow has said it will strengthen its forces in eastern Europe if the U.S. decides to station tanks and heavy weapons in NATO states on Russia’s border for the first time since the end of the Cold War

U.S. PLANS

To store equipment for brigade of up to 5,000 U.S. troops in Baltic and East European states to deter possible Russian aggression

Estonia (1), Latvia (2), and Lithuania (3) each  to store equipment for company of 150 soldiers 

Poland (4), Romania (5), Bulgaria (6) and possibly Hungary (7) – storage for battalion of around 750 soldiers

RUSSIAN RESPONSE

Says move would violate tacit agreements of 1990s

Moscow could speed up deployment of Iskander missiles to Kaliningrad, and beef up forces in Belarus
