Disaster claims 32 lives Jan 14: Prosecutors detain Schettino on charges of manslaughter and abandoning ship. Five other crew members are arrested Jan 17: Ship’s owner, Costa Crociere, agrees to pay passengers €11,000 each in compensation Apr 2013: Costa Crociere accepts limited responsibility for disaster and is fined €1 million Jul: Trial of Schettino begins in city of Grosseto. Court accepts plea bargains for other suspects, handing down jail sentences of six months to two years and 10 months for multiple manslaughter, negligence and shipwreck Jul 2014: Concordia refloated and towed to Genoa to be scrapped Feb 11, 2015: Schettino is found guilty of multiple manslaughter and abandoning his passengers and crew.
