2005: Death of King Fahd, ruler since 1982. Abdullah becomes king

2011: On death of Abdullah’s full brothers Sultan and Nayef, Salman becomes Crown Prince, heir apparent. Appointed Defence Minister

2015: Accession to Saudi throne. Half-brother Muqrin becomes new Crown Prince
