Born: Paris, to Algerian parents. Grew up in Rennes orphanage

1990s: Fell under influence of radical Paris imam, Farid Benyettou and Djamel Beghal – extremist organiser linked to Abu Qatada in UK

2001: Beghal jailed in 2001 for plot to bomb U.S. embassy in Paris

2005: Cherif detained en route to Iraq

2008: Cherif and Benyettou jailed for their part in Buttes Chaumont network, recruiting militants to fight for Al Qaeda in Fallujah, Iraq

2010: Named in connection with plot to spring Algerian GIA terrorist, Smain Ait Ali Belkacem, from jail. Released due to lack of evidence

2011: Said travelled to Yemen, possibly for small arms training
