Joint Strike Fighter picture captions GN12345C.jpg -- Boeing successfully completed the Joint Strike Fighter X-32A concept demonstrator's flight test with a loaded internal weapons bay January 25, 2001. Carrying an instrumented AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile, or AMRAAM, and a Joint Direct Attack Munition, the X-32AÕs weapons bay doors opened and cycled as part of vibration and acoustic testing during the aircraftÕs 61st flight. The operational JSF will be able to internally carry two air-to-ground weapons and two AMRAAMs as a baseline load, as well as a full range of other conventional weapons. MUST CREDIT BOEING. During simulated carrier landings on the field at Patuxent River, Lockheed Martin's test pilots put their X-35C through 220 approaches across the range of conditions expected to be encountered during actual at-sea landing. Lockheed Martin plans now to concentrate on its short-takeoff-and-vertical landing (STOVL) version of JSF, which is now in testing at Palmdale, Calif., and West Palm Beach, Fla. For Lockheed Martin and Boeing, a de facto deadline of August 15 has been set to conclude flight test operations of conventional and STOVL versions. August 15 is the final date set by the government for submission of flight-test data accompanying each contractor's proposal. MUST CREDIT LOCKHEED MARTIN. For editorial use only. /ENDS
