TEST FILES IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR 8.0.1 FORMAT All graphics since the Graphic News Service started in 1991 have been uploaded in Adobe Illustrator version 3.0 format for ease of use by subscribers with older Illustrator packages. It is our wish to package all new graphics in Adobe Illustrator 8.0 format from February 1, 2000. We believe this has significant benefitsÉ ILLUSTRATOR 8.0.1: Was released by Adobe in 1999 and is well liked by our own artists. It was recommended by those subscribers that responded to our questionnaire in July 1999. TIMETABLE: We notified all subscribers in July and September 1999. We delayed the upgrade until the new year to assist systems managers preoccupied with Y2K problems. It is now time to implement the change. TEST FILES: We have included two test files to enable you to check colour separation, output and exportation to your specific page-makeup program. GN10562: This file utilises layers to enable in-house artists to customize information as required. We are building a collection of maps in this format to help subscribers respond to breaking news. GN10564: This file contains a large bitmapped file in Adobe Photoshop 5.5, CMYK JPG format on the Placed Art Layer. This format enables the bitmapped file to retain its exact size and pixel resolution as well as allowing it to be scaled in a page-makeup program such as Quark XPress. HINT: To maintain compatibility with earlier versions of Illustrator save in Illustrator EPS format, choose Compatibility for your preferred Illustrator version (v6.0 upwards only) and check Include Placed Files, CMYK PostScript (v8.0 only), PostScript Level 1, 2 or 3 (as required) and Preview for IBM PC or Mac. FILENAMES: We are adopting a standard nine character alpha-numeric filename followed by a three character suffix. GN10564C.sea and GN10564M.sea are the colour and monochrome compressed files, and GN10564C.ai8 and GN10564M.ai8 are the Illustrator files. Any bitmapped Placed Art will be in the same folder as the Illustrator file and be named GN10564C.jpg or GN10564M.jpg. Stories will remain as GN10564.txt.
