THE JULY CUP by Midge Todhunter LONDON, July 7, Graphic News: THE JULY CUP is a straight six furlong dash, and generally recognised as the championship sprint race of the season. £150,000 prizemoney Ð Group 1 Ð for three-year-olds and upwards Ð weight for age. The winner usually goes on to represent Europe at The BreedersÕ Cup championship races at Churchill Downs, Kentucky, in November. Newmarket has two racecourses, the Rowley Mile and the July Course. The July Cup is run on the July Course, and features the last six furlongs of the famous straight called the Bunbury Mile Ð a galloping track with undulations, on ancient and undisturbed turf, with a sharp uphill finish.
