CAPTION TO GALILEO ENTRY PHOTOGRAPH ______________________________________ File # GN5110 (P) Galileo entry This Hubble Space Telescope image of Jupiter was taken on October 5, 1995, when the giant planet was at a distance of 534 million miles (854 million kilometres) from Earth. The arrow points at the predicted site at which the Galileo Probe will enter JupiterÕs atmosphere on December 7, 1995. The four enlarged Hubble images of Jupiters equitorial region show clouds sweeping across the predicted Galileo Probe entry site. The four photos Ð which show an area about three Earth diameters (37,433 kilometres) Ð were taken over a period of 60 hours. During the intervening time between the first and fourth image the winds have swept the clouds 15,000 miles (24,000 kilometres) eastward.
